A worse than obstinate president; backroom deals, political scheming and betrayals; a new prime minister resigning then being nominated again: the politicians of the bourgeoisie offer a pitiful sight. And, in today’s snake pit, Lecornu’s improvised government stands little chance of surviving the budget vote.
The latest political crisis shows that the bourgeois political class is failing.
The workers have nothing to regret of course — the ruling politicians have never been on their side! For decades, ministers, one after the other, have let millions of women and men suffer in misery even though society has never been richer. They pretend to lead, yet they are incapable of solving such simple problems as ensuring a job, housing and a decent wage for all. It's not their incompetence, it's that they don't care.
These politicians have only ever governed in the interests of the bosses, especially the richest ones. And they’ve been doing their job well, since the wealthiest have never before been better off. But today, it’s clear that these politicians can’t even manage their own system anymore — they are incapable of doing the job that the bourgeoisie demands of them.
Capitalists and financiers are worried that the budget won’t be passed on time. But we, the workers, should be worried that the budget will necessarily be a hardline budget against the working class. Lecornu’s budget will be largely inspired by Bayrou’s, that is to say it will include 30-40 billion euros in cuts and account for an extra 7 billion euros for the military. And where will the government get that money?
The head of the bosses’ union (the Medef) and the big capitalist families have made it clear: they won’t foot the bill. They’ll tolerate nothing more than a small, symbolic contribution. So, as always, the government will get the money by digging into the pockets of workers and retirerees, of the unemployed and the sick.
To help make the bitter pill easier to swallow, Lecornu will throw a few bones to left-wing politicians, so as to pretend that he’s granting concessions. But what he gives with one hand he’ll take back with the other because his job is certainly not to make the richest French dynasties like Arnault (LVMH), Bolloré (transportation, logistics and media), Mulliez (Auchan) or Saadé (CMA CGM) pay, but to serve them to the detriment of the working class. The Socialist Party (PS) and all those who claim that anything positive may come out of Lecornu’s government — like suspending the pension reform for example — are deceiving the workers.
But the political parties calling for the dissolution of Parliament or even Macron’s resignation are deceiving the workers just as much.
The National Rally (RN) on one side and Unsubmissive France (LFI) on the other, both swear they would be able to better manage the system while improving life for workers. But these are lies and even more so because the capitalist system is in a deep crisis, heading toward war, and major corporations are greedier now than ever before.
In this context, there can be no progress for workers without a direct confrontation with big corporations and the rich. Neither the National Rally (RN) nor Unsubmissive France (LFI) has such a policy.
For the National Rally (RN), it’s obvious because Bardella and Le Pen have been spending their time flattering big corporate owners and have already guaranteed they will serve them even before getting into power.
As for Unsubmissive France (LFI) – which wouldn’t be able to have a majority government without again cozying up to the Socialist Party (PS) and the Communist Party (PCF) – the party has been focusing its attacks on Macron while carefully not blaming big bosses. On the contrary, its goal is to convince people that its policies would be “good for business” and therefore good for both workers and employers. That’s just not possible!
The roadmap for the next government — and the ones to follow whether they be left-, right-, or far right-wing — is already drawn up. It is based solely on the demands of the capitalist class. Once in power, all of them will offer nothing but more inequality, exploitation and war. So, let’s stop waiting for a supreme savior!
We, the workers, hold the solution in our own hands. We know how to produce all the wealth and riches and we can make society function without the capitalists and their lackeys, who are nothing but irresponsible parasites.
That’s why we must build a party that fights to overthrow capitalism — a party through which workers themselves take control of companies and society.
