Trussed or un-trussed? Their crisis can be our opportunity!

Jeremy Hunt, the new Chancellor has apparently appeased the City and its markets.  So for now the axe which was poised above Liz Truss’s neck ready to chop, is paused.  But the Tory press continues to make a laughing stock of her.

The Times cartoonist portrayed Truss as a corpse on the dissection block (à la Rembrandt “Old Master”!) with Hunt holding her amputated leg in one hand and her dissected arm with a pair of forceps in the other.  While the Daily Star portrays her as a lettuce leaf on life support.  And the Sun calls her the “ghost PM”.

Well, Hallowe’en is 10 days from now, when Hunt is meant to present a new, fully costed budget.  Maybe Truss will turn into a pumpkin, maybe not!  In the meantime her MPs are drawing lots...

One news presenter on BBC asked: are the markets now in charge?  A good question.  The government’s total mess has, in fact, exposed precisely who really rules under this system - and yes!  It is certainly the financial markets and banks who are in charge!

Today’s capitalist economy is so degenerate that the size and importance of the “real” economy (its productive base) are negligible compared with the giant role of financial speculation (including in noxious debt packages!) which now represents its chief activity: the roulette wheel is the only game in town!  No wonder capital’s political representatives turn out to be nothing but snake-oil salesmen/saleswomen or shysters...

All the more reason for the working class to see the point in replacing the whole bang chute!  Why should any of this crisis-inducing, war-mongering, climate-damaging, poverty-perpetuating profit system with its increasingly rotten politicians be allowed to continue?

So yes, it’s good to see the British ruling class in such an unprecedented mess.  But more’s the pity that it’s of their own making and not a crisis caused by a working class revolt!  Because that is exactly what needs to be prepared.  Labour, the “real party of business in favour of low taxes and growth”(!) no longer even tries to disguise the fact that it stands for the same union-jack-draped class system under crisis capitalism as the Tories!  Never has it been more urgent for workers to get organised in their own political party and under their own flag!
